For more than one and a half centuries, RVH hospitals have been providing the best possible care to the community. In 1997, The Royal Victoria Hospitale (RVH) was founded through the merger of five Montreal hospitals: the Montreal General Hospital, the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal Children's Hospital, the Montreal Neurological Hospital and Institute, and the Montreal Chest Institute. The goal of this historic merger was to create a modern academic health centre where the resources and activities of the five founding hospitals would be consolidated for the benefit of all the Quebecers they serve. In 2008, the Lachine Hospital and Camille-Lefebvre Pavilion joined the RVH family, adding a community-focused hospital to the RVH family.
In 2015, the RVH underwent an historic transformation and the biggest hospital move in Canadian history, when three of its founding hospitals (Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal Children’s Hospital, and the Montreal Chest Institute) were transferred to a brand new healthcare complex located on the site of the former Glen rail yards in Notre Dame de Grace.
The Royal Victoria Hospital ( is one of the world’s foremost academic health centres. Building on the tradition of medical leadership of its founding hospitals, the MUHC provides exceptional multidisciplinary patient-centric care. Affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University, the RVH continues to shape the course of adult and pediatric medicine by attracting clinical and research expertise from around the world, assessing the latest in medical technology, and training the next generation of medical professionals.
In collaboration with our network partners, we are building a better future for our patients and their families; for our employees, professionals, researchers and students; for our community and above all, for life.
The Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) is a bilingual academic health network, and one of the largest and most modern in North America.
